With the receipt of the grant and bringing on some folks to help reorganize the collection, the work began! It is ongoing now, so this is to help with navigating what's going on in the Cyril George Collection and to help find materials. When in doubt, please ask a librarian for help at the Reference Desk.
The first step is review of the items, which results in a review slip with a proposed new call number. They are then shelved in order by these new call numbers, using the slip instead of the call number on the spine of the book. To help with finding materials, a printed copy of the call number ranges is located in this area as well.
Two main documents are in use, the project process document and the BDCS schema. Links to both:
In the catalog, items in this processing area can be spotted with the note in the "material" section:
The goal is for the new call number area to make sense, so hopefully items are in the area where you expect them!
Meanwhile, as items get processed, they are going to be inter-mixed with the items with the slips in them - again, following the new call numbers. That will look something like this:
Due to the new call numbers accounting more accurately for the items in the collection, there is less need for the different sub-collections. However, the colored tape which represented these is remaining. Items will be in a main Cyril George Collection in the catalog, like so:
Items in the processing area, or that are already processed, can all be checked out at the Circulation desk. Please bring any slips in the materials with you as well. If an item is not out on the shelves at all, it is likely being actively reviewed by Egan Library Technical Services staff, and a librarian can help you get ahold of those materials as well.
Additionally, guides have been added to each call number range to help show what should be located where:
