ebooks @ UAS Libraries

All about electronic (e-book) collections at UAS libraries.

What are these collections?

In recent years the Egan Library expanded the providers we purchase ebooks from, as not all are available from our main providers. Below are links to these sites, and sample titles from each. All of our purchased ebook titles are available in the library catalog.

Oxford University Press

Oxford has several websites for its content. One is Oxford Reference, a collection of ebooks available across Alaska thanks to SLED. Many of these books are subject dictionaries, and represent some of our most up-to-date dictionary material. You can search for entries or for whole books and browse within. You can limit searches or browsing to either or both of subscribed or free ebooks. This is a collection where the common thing to do might be to find a specific book on your subject and then look within it.

We also have access to individual ebooks purchased from Oxford; these are located along their journal content on the Oxford Academic site. Like with Oxford Reference, you can search across all of their content, or limit to subscribed or open access materials.

Taylor & Francis ebooks

ebooks are available for unlimited users and are DRM-free. Download the whole book, or chapters. The Taylor & Francis ebooks site is separate from their journals site. You can limit your search to only titles we have access to, including or not including free Open Access ebooks.

IGI Global

ebooks are available for unlimited users and are DRM-free. Download the whole book, or chapters. At the moment the library just has the one book collection, and titles frequently have an international perspective or focus. Search ebooks alongside journal content, with most of the content being Open Access - including all of their journals.

ScienceDirect

ebooks are available for unlimited users and are DRM-free. Download by chapters, able to select many or all at once. The ScienceDirect ebooks can be searched alongside their journal content on a single site. You can limit your search to only titles we are subscribed to, or browse subscribed titles.

ProjectMuse

ebooks are available for unlimited users and are DRM-free. Download the whole book, or chapters. We have very few ebooks or journals through ProjectMuse, but they can all be searched together on the site, including free Open Access content. Search results can be limited to materials we provide access to.

Cambridge University Press

ebooks are available for unlimited users and are DRM-free. Download the whole book, or chapters. The Cambridge Core site searches both journal and ebook content published by Cambridge University Press. You can limit your search to titles we have access to, or to only Open Access materials, as well as limiting to publication type (like book or article).
